Free Upgrades and Upgrade Protection
SDS provides 12 months of upgrade protection when you purchase the product. That means if you purchased the product less than 12 months before the release of a new version, you will receive the upgrade free. If you purchased SDS 2 or Enterprise Edition after Aug 1, 2006 you will be entitled to a free upgrade to Version 3. To review prior purchases of SDS, please log-in to your Online Services account to access the payment receipt which will have the date of purchase recorded. If you are eligible for a free upgrade, it will be made available under your Online Services account.
How to upgrade
If you are upgrading your software, consider that SDS's normal office hours (9am - 5pm) are in GMT-5 and that any support queries arising from the upgrade will be resolved more responsively within these normal office hours.

- Install this version of SDS. See this article for information on installing upgrades:
- Purchase the upgrade by using your Online Services account - select "Upgrade Licenses" and then the "Upgrade" button next to the license you wish to upgrade.
FAQ on upgrading SDS 2.x to 3
If I upgrade, will my current data be affected?
No - We suggest just as a precaution that you first back up your database. For a SDS 2 to SDS 3 upgrade, the format of the settings/etc. are identical to the SDS 2 release - it is just that SDS3 has additional features. The same applies to 2.x - 3 upgrade and the Enterprise 2.x -
Enterprise 3 upgrade.
To upgrade you can simply install over the existing installation accepting the default values when running through the setup wizard. i.e. just click the Next button and leave everything as the default. This process is outlined in detail in Knowledge Base Article
You may also setup a new directory and still have access to the old app if still desired.
Will there be a downtime while I upgrade?
The install process usually takes less than 5 minutes to install - but the server will most likely need to be rebooted (depending on whether there are any system files that cannot be replaced by the SDS3 installation).
If I install SDS Version 3 and after evaluating it, decide not to purchase, can I downgrade back to the previously installed version?

Once I have the software installed, how can I obtain an updated license key for Version 3?

You will need to login to Online Services using your account details emailed to you when you purchased SDS. Navigate to the "Issued licenses" and beside your current license key you will see a button named "upgrade". |

Click the upgrade button and follow the prompts to upgrade your current license key. |

Once you have upgraded your license key, you can then use the Registration Wizard (under the about menu) to enter the updated key. |
